Scripture Union Daily Guide 2nd July 2026 – Outline
Even as David flees in panic, weeping and lamenting his state, he shows himself a strategic thinker especially when it comes to fighting the enemy. Notice the instructions he gives to his loyalists (2 Samuel 15:24-29,32-37). He encourages strategic people to go back to Absalom; Zadok, Hushai and all the Levites and even the Ark of covenant of God among others. They all became moles for David in the camp of unsuspecting Absalom who will send back critical information to David. What a strategy! The news that Ahithophel (Bathsheba’s grandfather, and David’s wisest counsellor) has gone to Absalom must have devastated him but notice his response (2 Samuel 15:31). Compare his reaction here with the panic earlier. Joseph Scriven, the song writer, wrote, O, what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry,
Everything to God in prayer.
No matter how terrible the situation, if you commit it to the Lord in prayer, He can change any situation for good. Absalom is smart in his conspiracy, but David proves even smarter in his strategy to outwit Absalom.
Closing Prayer
Lord, please help me to obey your command to pray without ceasing. In crises period, enable me to seek your face for solace, consolation and wisdom.
