Scripture Union Daily Guide 4 September 2026 Outline
How can someone overcome somebody who is stronger and mightier than him? See Deuteronomy 20:1; Jeremiah 20:11. Notice how God introduced Himself in Deuteronomy 9:3. Israel was no match to these seven strong nations (Deuteronomy 7:1; Deuteronomy 9:1-2) but the God they serve made a whole lot of difference. Who is your God? Are you still serving man-made idols that cannot save? Our God is a consuming fire, who can defeat nations and mighty invincible and invisible enemies. Why, according to Deuteronomy 9:4,5 is God driving these nations away?
Read Deuteronomy 9:6-8,12 again. Do you think Israel merited this God’s intervention on their behalf? God had described His relationship with Israel in Exodus 34:6-7, when He introduced Himself to Moses. Israel does not in any way deserve to receive His blessing of victory over other nations. God does this purely because of His mercy and love for them and His faithfulness to His covenant promise to the patriarchs (see Deuteronomy 9:5). Their victory will be solely by God’s grace. God still relates with us out of His mercies, grace and longsuffering (Psalms 130:3-4). Let us draw near to Him.

Tiny David who defeated one of the descendants of the Anakites shared his testimony in 2 Samuel 22:4-16 (read it at your spare time). Cf. 1 Samuel 17.
