Scripture Union Daily Guide 4th June 2026 – Outline
With the help of a foreign king, David built a house of Cedar. Its beauty and splendor were beyond David’s imagination. His conscience might have bothered him for living in such a flamboyant house while the ark of God dwelt in a tent (v.2). Thus, building something better Nathan who consented to his thoughts and plan (v.3). How did God’s response prove them wrong (vs.12,13)? What can you learn from this? See Proverbs 3:5-6; Isaiah 55:8-9.
David might have been disappointed that it was not him, but his son who was to build the house for God. However, his good intentions and plans were overwhelmingly rewarded by God who promised him a dynasty that will last forever (v.16). This was the basis of the messianic hope, fulfilled in Jesus Christ who was born in Bethlehem (David’s birthplace) and of the house and lineage of David.
Read the words of the angel to Mary in Luke 1:32-33. David obeyed God and did not build the Temple, but we will see later the elaborate arrangements he made to make the task easy for his son.
Prayer: Lord, when my good intention is rejected, help me to submit to your will in every situation.
