Scripture Union Daily Guide 5 November 2026 Outline

Read 1 Peter 4:1-3 again and note Peter’s exhortation to believers regarding the sinful nature and suffering. Suffering may not be palatable to our human nature and body, but it is one of the things that God uses to sanctify our souls. See Hebrews 12:5-11. To embrace this truth, Peter says that we must arm ourselves with the same attitude our Lord Jesus had (1 Peter 4:1; Philippians 2:5).

Although He had no sin (Hebrews 4:14), Jesus suffered and underwent pains, without shrinking back (Hebrews 5:8). We, also must be ready to suffer (1 Peter 2:21-23), realizing that when our body suffers, sin loses its power, we receive grace to break free from the sinful patterns of the past, to obey God with eagerness.

Choosing to live for God is not always easy. The pull of the past and the pressure from old friends who do not understand our new commitment to Christ can be strong (1 Peter 4:4). What encouragement is there for us in 1 Peter 4:5-6?

In 1 Peter 4:7a, Peter emphasizes that the end of all things is near. Given this truth, how are we expected to live (1 Peter 4:7b-11; cf. Romans 13:11-14)?

And So:
Living for God’s will is not passive; it calls for daily choices that honour Him. Decide to break away from habits or relationships pulling you toward your old way of life.
