Scripture Union Daily Guide 4 November 2026 Outline
As Christians, our lives should consistently testify to the saving grace of Christ, wherever we are and whatever the situation. Notice Peter’s command in 1 Peter 3:8; cf, Romans 12:9-13,16. The natural tendency when passing through persecution is to think of revenge. But Peter urges us not to seek vengeance but to bless others instead so that we too may receive a blessing (1 Peter 3:9). See Romans 12:17-21. Why is this important? (See 1 Peter 3:10-12; cf. Matthew 5:43-45).
Peter challenges us to pursue goodness regardless of the consequences (1 Peter 3:17). Even if we suffer for doing right, we are blessed because we are following the example of Christ, who suffered to bring us to God (1 Peter 3:18). His sacrifice was not in vain. Through His death, the message of salvation was proclaimed, extending even to past generations. By His resurrection, Christ gained the victory over all powers, and now everything is subject to Him (1 Peter 3:22).
Since Jesus is Lord over all, how should we live and serve Him (1 Peter 3:13-16)?
We must always honour Christ as Lord and be ready to explain our faith to others with gentleness and respect (1 Peter 3:15). When we do this, those who mock our faith will ultimately be put to shame (1 Peter 3:16).
