The family is the foundation of both the Church and the nation. If our homes reflect the love, truth and values of Christ, they will raise godly children who, in turn, will shape the future of the Church and nation. In today’s passage, Peter highlights the roles of husbands and wives in building Christ-centred homes.
Peter urges wives whose husbands are unbelievers to win their spouses through godly lives marked by purity and reverence (1 Peter 3:1-2; cf. Ephesians 5:22-24; Colossians 3:18). Actions often speak louder than words; a life of quiet submission and godly character can be a powerful testimony. What can we learn from Sarah’s example (1 Peter 3:6)? Trust in God and inner beauty should be cultivated and valued over mere outward adornment (1 Peter 3:3-5). As a Christian woman, what do your attitude and conduct say about your faith at home?
In 1 Peter 3:7, Peter says that the way husbands treat their wives can impact their spiritual life. A husband’s failure to love and respect his wife can hinder his prayers. This shows that our relationships at home affect our walk with God. How do you treat your wife? See also Ephesians 5:25-31; Colossians 3:19.
