Scripture Union Daily Guide 6 November 2026 Outline

Suffering is never easy nor pleasant, yet in this passage, Peter tells us not to be surprised when, as Christians, we suffer and go through trials (1 Peter 4:12). Why do you think Peter said this?

Many expect the Christian life to be smooth. They sing and confess, “me I no go suffer….” (I will not suffer). However, Peter reminds us that suffering is a normal part of following Christ (cf. 2 Timothy 3:12). It is designed by God not to destroy but to test our faith (cf. James 1:2-4). Instead of being discouraged, what are we commanded to do and why (1 Peter 4:13-16)? See also Matthew 5:10-12.

We are to rejoice not in the pain itself but in the privilege of being identified with Christ. And we should not be ashamed but glorify God and remain faithful to Him (1 Peter 4:16; Philippians 3:10; Acts 5:40-42). What other truths are there in 1 Peter 4:17-19?

Suffering for Christ is not a sign of God’s absence but of His refining work. It separates those who truly belong to Him from those who do not (1 Peter 4:17-18). God is always faithful. No matter how difficult the trial may be, He holds us securely (1 Peter 4:19).

What next:
Are you suffering for doing right? Don’t see it as a misfortune. Instead, rejoice that God is working through it for your good. Avoid bitterness or retaliation. Keep doing good while trusting God for your vindication.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Deuteronomy 31:6
Closing Prayer
Pray that God will strengthen Christians (around the world) who are being persecuted for their faith in Christ.
