The word of God is called different names – decrees, laws, requirements and commands (Deuteronomy 11:1). As His requirements, God’s word tells us how we can be in right relationship with Him and to be with Him in eternity. What do His words as decrees, laws and commands suggest?
Love for God and obedience to Him go hand in hand; one cannot exist without the other. (Deuteronomy 11:1; John 14:15; 1 John 5:3). We love God and therefore keep His word. We keep His word because we love Him. It is self-deception, when we profess to love God but live contrary to His word.
In Deuteronomy 11:2-7, the Israelites were to remember what the Lord did for them, as a motivation for loving and obeying His commandments. What personal experiences with God can you remember which should motivate you to love and obey Him?
Obeying God brings great blessings. What blessings of obeying God’s commands are there in Deuteronomy 11:8-9 and Deuteronomy 11:13-15 for the Israelites? How are these relevant to us today? Check the warning that is in Deuteronomy 11:16-17 for us
