Daily Guide 27 April 2022 | Scripture Union Outline

Notice the tense in v.1 and compare with 11:31 and Acts 7:1‐4. Was the initial call to the larger family or did Terah leave his homeland to ensure Abram fulfils God’s call? Whatever, he failed to reach Canaan but settled and died in Haran. We must go all the way in obedience to God’s call. God had to call Abram a second time. This time, he promptly obeyed, left Haran and his father’s family and went to Canaan.

Notice the covenant of blessings that would accompany Abram’s obedience (vs.2‐3). You have every blessing to receive when you fulfil God’s call for your life. God repeated His promise to Abraham when he reached Canaan (v.7). Were you Abraham, would you have believed all these would happen especially with your age and a barren wife? Abraham built altars and worshiped God wherever he went (vs.7, 8).

Altars were generally more than places of sacrifice. Like Noah, Abram built it to worship God in response to His protection and promises. It is not easy to leave the comfort and security that you know to go into an unknown situation, but Abram did because he was faithful and obedient to God (Hebrews 11:8‐10). Are you confident of your obedience to God today?

Practice/Word Application
