Scripture Union Daily Guide 3 April 2022 Devotional | Outline
Admittedly, genealogies are not the best‐read portions of the Bible. It is easy to skip them and go to other ‘important’ passages of Scripture. However, genealogies serve a very important purpose: establishing one’s family identity. It also has a lot to teach us. The genealogy here is through the ‘godly seed’, Seth. Contrast this with the generation of Cain (Genesis 4:17‐23). All of humanity is born into a fallen world having descended from the first man, Adam. We all take our nature from him.
God had originally created man to live eternally but because of sin, even though man initially lived for so long, they all had to die. The only exception was Enoch (vs.21‐24). Note why he ended up differently (see Hebrews 11:5). Today, our situation is even worse. Our environment and the earth have become so much polluted that healthy living is greatly impaired and life expectancy much reduced. Observe also the prophetic utterance that followed the birth of Noah (vs.28‐29). Discover what God has said about you and hold on to it.
Practice/Word Application
So what? What was lost through Adam has been restored through Jesus Christ (Romans 5:17‐18). Have you taken advantage of Christ’s offer of eternal life?
• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
Closing Prayer
• Dear God, my destiny is determined by whether I have a new birth through you. Please help me to make the right decision and uphold it.
