SCRIPTURE UNION DAILY GUIDE 8TH AUGUST 2022 DEVOTIONAL

Topic: “I Am Coming Soon”

Opening Prayer: Lord, let the light of your word shine into my life as I meditate on your word.

Scripture: Revelation 3:7‐13

Question(s) for Reflection
• Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?
• Is there any prayer for me to remember?

The Lord acknowledges that the Philadelphia church has “little strength”, yet they have “kept my word and have not denied my name” (v.8). What a laudable testimony! No matter how little our faith, we can serve the Lord loyally, for “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life” (2 Peter 1:3). The open door placed before this church (v.8), and all churches, is the door of salvation. All who come to Jesus have salvation; “never again will they leave it” (v.12)!

Salvation is closed only to those who reject Christ. But, “How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation?” (Hebrew 2:3). “I am coming soon” says the Lord (v.11). The pertinent response is not “How soon?” but rather “What should I do?” The second question draws the right answer from the Lord, which is: “Hold on to what you have” (v.11). 2 Peter 3:1‐8 is the appropriate response to scoffers who ridicule the Second Coming of Christ.

The Christian walk is a journey of patient endurance under trials, temptations, and tests (v.10). However, abundant rewards await believers who will endure to the end. Identify five rewards in vs.10‐12?which includes becoming citizens of the New Jerusalem, the future dwelling place of all believers (cf. Revelation 21:2).

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Thank you, Lord, for opening your door for me to enter your salvation. Please help me not to give up following you to the end.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with
1 Timothy 6:12; Habakkuk 1‐3
