Scripture Union Daily Guide 10 November 2026 Outline

Joshua, the High Priest in filthy garments, represents his own defilement and Israel’s sin (Zechariah 3:3). Satan, the accuser, seizes this as a basis for condemnation (Zechariah 3:1). Since a defiled High Priest cannot intercede for the people, Israel’s sin remains unforgiven. But God’s mercy intervenes (Zechariah 3:2).

God replacing Joshua’s filthy clothes with clean priestly robes (Zechariah 3:4) signifies cleansing and restoration, reflecting God’s work in salvation (Titus 2:12; 1 John 1:7). His high priestly turban, inscribed with “Holy to the Lord” (Exodus 28:36-38), is restored, reinstating him as mediator for the people. However, restoration requires obedience. What was the charge given to Joshua (Zechariah 3:7)? What does that mean for us today (cf. Deuteronomy 30:19-20)?

Joshua and the priests (Zechariah 3:8) symbolize greater realities in Christ, the ultimate High Priest and “the Branch” (Isaiah 42:1; Jeremiah 23:5). The “stone” in Zechariah 3:9 represents Christ’s authority, while its “seven eyes” symbolize His perfect wisdom (cf. Zechariah 3:4-10 c). “Removing the sin of the land in a single day” (Zechariah 3:9b) points to Christ’s atoning sacrifice on the cross – Good Friday (Hebrews 9:11-14). Through Him, we receive cleansing, restoration, and peace.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with 1 Corinthians 15:58

Closing Prayer
