Scripture Union Daily Guide 7 November 2026 Outline
Read 1 Peter 5:2-4 again and observe the specific injunctions Peter gave to the leaders. How would our churches look if our leaders would follow these injunctions? Notice that Peter speaks not just from his experience but also from the example of Jesus (1 Peter 5:1).
Many want the honour and privileges that come with leadership without an understanding of the responsibilities. Peter reminds us that leadership in the Church is a delegated job by the Chief Shepherd (1 Peter 5:2,4). It involves caring for, feeding, leading, guiding, protecting, and nurturing God’s people in their faith, much like a shepherd tends the flock (cf. Ezekiel 34:4; John 10:12-13).
It requires patience, humility, love and living an exemplary life. Humility is easier to talk about than learn or live. Lack of humility is one of the causes of crises in our churches today. Peter’s call to humility is not for leaders alone but also the followers (1 Peter 5:5-6; Ephesians 5:21).
Take note of the command in 1 Peter 5:7 (cf. Philippians 4:6). How does knowing that God cares for you make you feel? What other commands and promises can you see in 1 Peter 5:8-10?
