Scripture Union Daily Guide 9 November 2026 Outline
This is Zechariah’s third vision. The “measuring line” (Zechariah 2:1) is a sign that God was planning for Jerusalem’s future growth and expansion. Though the city’s walls were still broken and its people vulnerable, God assured them that Jerusalem would overflow with people and livestock. How would He protect them?
He said, “I will be a wall of fire around it” (Zechariah 2:5). This signifies not only divine protection but also His glorious presence among His people. His presence is the source of all blessings.
Read Zechariah 2:6-9 again. The exiles were urged to return home. Notice God’s promise to them in Zechariah 2:8-9. How does this encourage us today? We are precious to God. He watches over us and cares for us like the apple of His eye (cf. Matthew 10:29-31).
Beyond Israel’s restoration, this passage points to a greater fulfilment, the coming of God’s kingdom. Jerusalem will become a centre of worship for all nations (Zechariah 2:11), a prophecy that began to unfold at Pentecost (Acts 2:7-11). God’s presence will dwell among His people (Zechariah 2:12). Because of this, the chapter ends with a call for reverence and worship (Zechariah 2:13).
