Scripture Union Daily Guide 10th February 2021 Devotional – Christ Assures of Rest

You are reading Today’s Scripture Union Daily Guide for Wednesday 10th February 2021 Devotional written to inspire and bless you.

TODAY’S TOPIC: CHRIST ASSURES OF REST

Opening Prayer: Let me know more of you today dear Lord as I meditate on your word.

Matthew 11: 25-30
25At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. 26Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do. 27 “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit? • Is there any promise for me to believe or hope for?

Today’s Outline: Scripture Union Daily Guide 10th February 2021 Devotional

In v.25b, Jesus gives thanks to the Father for revealing the deep things of the Kingdom to little children and hiding them from the “wise and learned”. Little Children in this case refers to those who are willing and have a desire to know more about Jesus and his Kingdom while the wise and learned would mean those who had mastered the Law but unfortunately, are hard-hearted in regard to letting God teach them his ways rather than sticking to theirs. What is the outcome of an intimate relationship with Jesus, the Son of God (v.27)?

No wonder, Jesus makes a clarion call to all who are ‘struggling’ with sin, are wearied and burdened, to come and find rest in Him! What do you think this rest is all about? Eternal life (John 10: 27, 28). Yes, but He also blesses us with all heavenly blessings while living our lives here on earth. Life is characterized by struggles for survival; looking for comfort.

This search for fulfilment lasts the whole of man’s lifetime, but which outcome the Bible describes as meaningless (Ecclesiastes 1:2, 3, 14). A fulfilled life, total peace of mind and spirit is found only in Jesus Christ. His “yoke is easy to bear” (Matthew 11:30).

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Dear Lord, I submit to you totally, because I see my need for your kind of peace and rest.
• Pray against the syndrome of sit-tight leadership in some countries.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Psalm 107:19, 20
19. Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He saved them from their distress.
20. He sent forth His word and healed them; He rescued them from the Pit.

Bible In One Year: Isa. 47-49; Mark 12:1-27
