Scripture Union Daily Guide 12th April 2026 – Oultine
King Zedekiah seems desperate to know the truth about his situation. He hence brought Jeremiah from prison for a secret consultation. However, he finds it difficult to obey the instructions that comes with the truth. Read Jeremiah 38:17-23 again. What does this tell us about God’s character? Note the consistency in Jeremiah’s message. On his part, he resisted the temptation to falsify God’s message just to please the king and free himself from suffering.
We also see in these verses God’s incredible patience with sinners. He had offered opportunity after opportunity for the rulers and the people to return to Him, and here again, He was willing to spare the king and his people if they surrender willingly to the Babylonians. Even in the display of His justice, God patiently pursues sinners, but His patience will come to an end one day. What else can we learn from Jeremiah in Jeremiah 38:24-28?
Rulers are surrounded by many advisers who flatter them instead of giving them honest advice. Such advisers can only bring doom on the rulers and the people. We need God-fearing Christian leaders to give truthful advice to our political rulers. We also need prophets who will fearlessly but wisely declare God’s mind to save the land from destruction.
