Today’s Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 15 December 2022

After Hezekiah had re‐established temple worship and celebrated the long‐neglected Passover feast, he then began waging war against the idols of his patriarchs. What do you notice about his actions in 2 Kings 18:4‐5 and the results? From vs.2‐10: there was need to meet the needs of the Temple and the clergy. Hezekiah started off the “fund‐raising campaign” by contributing animals for the burnt offerings (v.2).

What does it teach you about exemplary leadership? Leaders are called to live exemplary lives. All the ceremonies commanded by the Law of Moses had been neglected and the tithing system that supported the Levitical tribe totally abandoned. Hezekiah revived it and encouraged people to give freely. Notice the outcome of this in vs.5,10. After taking care of the temple workers, Hezekiah then appointed administrators and overseers with responsibility for the storage and distribution of the food, tithes and contributions to the temple (vs.11‐15).

The reason for a prosperous time in Hezekiah’s leadership was that he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and worked wholeheartedly (vs.20‐21).
