Scripture Union Daily Guide 17 September 2026 Outline
In our meditation on Tuesday, we emphasized the need for corporate worship. God specified a place where His people should gather to celebrate the different festivals. For David, this is Jerusalem, the city in which the Temple is located. Meeting with God and worshipping Him in the company of other believers fills his heart with joy. David here describes the city of Jerusalem and prays for it. Jerusalem is a holy city (Psalms 122:2-5) because the Temple of God is located therein. It is a central place of worship.
It also accommodates the thrones of the Kings of lsrael (Psalms 48:1). The city is well built with gates. This passage concluded with the psalmist praying for the peace, prosperity and protection of Jerusalem. He challenges us on the need to intercede in prayers for our cities/towns and country. As a new people of God (the new Israel) we are reminded that we are citizens of Jerusalem which is above, the city of the living God (Hebrews 12:22).
