Scripture Union Daily Guide 18 October 2025 Outline

Can you identify with the anguish with which Elihu began his argument (Job 33:1-11)? Consider the language used: “It is not so much a matter of pride as it is a desperate concern.” (Job 33:4-7). We sometimes wonder why Christians suffer. Being right with God does not imply the absence of problems. Complaining to God may not necessarily be negative. It might be a way of saying, “Lord, you are my Father, I have confidence in your power to deliver, but I do not understand your delay.”

God speaks in different ways through dreams, visions, and good and bad situations. He may speak with a still small voice, through earthquakes, flood waters, fires, etc. God speaks to warn man of his wrongdoing, to keep one from pride, to preserve him from perishing (Job 33:14-25). Not all sicknesses are because of sin but when it is, we should repent (Job 33:27-28). We also need prayer support from others (Job 33:23-24). God then forgives, heals, restores, and gives us a new beginning (see 1 John 1:9). Why does man not perceive when God speaks? We need to be sensitive to His voice and respond appropriately. Prophet Isaiah exhorts us to seek the Lord while He may be found and to call on Him while He is near (Isaiah 55:6-9).
