Scripture Union Daily Guide 19th August 2026 Outline
The Lord revealed His power on the mountain, but the people only heard His voice. They did not see His form. No one has ever seen God (John 1:18). It is, therefore, an abomination to create a carved image to represent God in any form, misrepresenting Him and reducing Him to the level of a creature.
God is the creator of all things. God’s anger is provoked by the sin of idolatry as He is a jealous God and a consuming fire (Deuteronomy 4:24). He looks for the exclusivity of our hearts, and total trust in Him only and obedience will generate blessings for us and future generations.
Moses reminds Israel of God’s anger against him when he disobeyed God. This warning sounded as an urgent reminder to the Israelites of the consequences of disobeying God’s precepts. He wants to make it clear to the Israelites that no man, not even him, is above God’s laws. Obedience to God’s words applies to all without any exception!
After the severe warnings, notice the message of hope that Moses offers by emphasizing God’s mercy and readiness to restore if His people wholeheartedly repent and seek Him.
