Today’s Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 25 November 2022

Take note of Joash’s age when he ascended the throne. What things and actions point to a person who had set his heart towards God (see vs.2,4,5,7,8‐12)? Thank God for the influence that Jehoaida the priest had on him. Compare this with the influence that Ahab’s household had on Ahaziah earlier. How can we encourage the Christian leaders to exert positive and godly influence on our elected leaders?

Joash restored the collection of tithes (vs.4,6,8‐12) and utilized it for the renovation of the Temple of God and its articles (vs.13&14). The tithe collected was more than enough to take care of all the Temple related costs, including renovations and restocking the articles prescribed for administering burnt offerings and other temple sacrifices (vs.8‐12).

What can we learn from this in terms of giving to the work of the Lord? Credit also goes to the masons and carpenters hired to renovate God’s temple. Their professionalism and integrity were attested (vs.13&14). Our nations would make progress if we had such people of integrity in leadership positions.

Practice/Word Application
And so: We have been challenged to live a life of integrity. What else can we learn from the passage today?
