Scripture Union Daily Guide 2nd May 2025 Today’s Devotional
Topic: One God, one message
Opening Prayer: Dear Lord, may the entrance of your word bring light and life to all I will do today.
Scripture: Galatians 1:1-10
INTRODUCTION TO PAUL’S LETTER TO THE GALATIANS
“But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned” (Galatians 1:8). This verse sums up the epistle. This epistle serves as a warning against a group who went about deceiving the new believers to forsake the simple faith in Jesus as Saviour but instead turn to Judaism as a precondition for salvation. Circumcised Christians were looking down on the uncircumcised as ‘second-class’ Christians. Paul used the strongest terms to rebuke these false teachers. He argues that in Christ, there is neither Jew nor Greek (Gentile), slave nor free, male nor female (Galatians 3:28). Faith in Christ and not keeping of the Law, is the only way to God. And we are not only saved by grace through faith, but we also live by grace through faith. “Grace is the way to life and the way of life.”
Question(s) For Meditation:
► Q5: Is there any warning for me to heed?
► Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?
Scripture Union Daily Guide 2nd May 2025 Outline
Note the credentials of Paul and his testimony about the Lord Jesus. To make inroad into the Church in Galatia and promote their revised gospel, these false teachers had to first discredit Paul’s claim to Apostleship hence his statement in Galatians 1:1 (cf. Acts 9:15). The resurrection is the centre of the gospel and the strongest proof of the deity and messiah-ship of Jesus Christ.
Early Christian leaders were mainly Jews. Many of them who found it difficult to break with their tradition went about teaching that Gentiles had to follow Jewish traditions like circumcision and food restrictions before being Christians. They were therefore nicknamed Judaizers. New believers must imbibe Jewish practices first before their sins would be forgiven. This meant that salvation was earned through works and not a gift from God through faith in Jesus Christ. This teaching cancelled the message of the cross which the Lord Jesus Christ endured for our sake. So incensing was this teaching that Paul pronounced a curse on anyone doing that whether himself or angels.
And So:
What doctrinal differences do you have to deal with in your church these days? What do you hear God say to you about them?
* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Keep me faithful to your word, dear Lord.
