When we quote Philippians 4:19, what do we mean? Physical? Spiritual? Economic? Social? Emotional? We must depend on God for the best. He can only meet us at the points of our need no matter what those needs are. Read the passage again and notice how God puts people on David’s path to make sure all his needs are met. Make a table stating what needs are met by each person.

How God provided for David and his men at this time of crisis should encourage us that God is watching over us and He will not allow us to suffer unnecessary lack, the economic situation of the world and our nation notwithstanding (Psalms 23:1). Read 2 Samuel 17:16-17 and note the lessons we can learn from David’s men.

Observe how God protected Jonathan and Ahimaaz from Absalom’s attack, so that they succeeded in delivering the message to David (2 Samuel 17:19-22). Serving God faithfully involves a lot of risks. But we can depend on God’s protection as we carry out His assignments (Isaiah 43:1-4).
