Question(s) for Reflection:
• Is there any example for me to follow or not to follow?

TODAY’S OUTLINE: SCRIPTURE UNION (SU) DAILY GUIDE 24TH APRIL 2021

Herod thought dispensing with John would free him to go on living in his sins but notice his reaction to the news of Jesus’ miracles (v.2). He realized that the work which John the Baptist was doing had not died with him, neither is his guilty conscience assuaged! The minister may be silenced, but never the Word of God. John the Baptist obeyed God and faithfully reproved Herod plainly. Some ministers of God would rather sugar-coat their message to gain favour before earthly rulers or for fear of persecution.

God calls us to faithfully and fearlessly execute the ministry He has placed into our hands. Herod had two of the greatest witnesses in human history: John the Baptist and Christ himself to interact with. Yet, he allowed himself to be destroyed by sin. The doom of Herod was later dramatically shown when he stood face to face with Jesus at Jesus’ trial. The Lord Jesus “gave him no answer” (see Luke 23:8-9).

How do we respond to the word of God especially when it reminds us of our foolish acts, our cruelty, lusts, and worldly ambitions? May we never neglect its conviction but respond in humble penitence. Herod’s rash promise on oath ensnared him (v.7). What caution is there for us against making thoughtless promises?

Practice/Word Application:
• And So? Are you faithful in proclaiming God’s Word?

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer:
• Help me, dear Lord, to faithfully and fearlessly declare your whole counsel.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with
• Eccle. 4-6; Rev. 11
