Outline For Scripture Union Daily Guide 22 December 2023
The birth of Jesus was not an ordinary one.
•It was a fulfilment of prophecy (Isaiah 9:6; Micah 5:2).
•Wise men (Gentiles) from the East received a revelation from an extraordinary star showing that the King of the Jews was born.
•The wise men journeyed over a distance to worship the baby King (v.2).
The whole of Jerusalem was stirred by their story and Herod felt threatened. Notice what he did (vs.4-8). Nobody can outsmart God, He knew Herod’s intent and through a dream, instructed the men to return by another way (v.12). We all feel threatened sometimes. When faced with such a situation, what should the Christian do?
God passed through an unexpected way, the Gentiles, to announce the birth of Jesus. He guided the wise men to where the baby was (vs.10,11). God can use ordinary people to disclose His purposes. If you love God, no power can arrest His plan for your life.
What can we learn from Herod’s action in vs.7,8? The star that led them waited for them until they were back to the right path (v.9) and led the way. Notice the joy of the men in v.10 and what they did in v.11. May God use this Christmas to challenge you to worship Him with a definite commitment, considering all He has done for you this year.

►Restraining the wicked from performing his enterprise
►Curtailing the wickedness of the wicked
PRAY FOR:
►That every counsel and purpose for religious upheavals in this nation be disappointed
►And destroy plans for religious attacks and counter attacks (reprisals)
►And command peace upon our land as we approach a new year.
