Ahaziah, Jehoram’s youngest and only remaining son takes up the reign of power and leadership after his father’s painful death. Observe from vs.3‐5 who the greatest influence in his life, leadership and character was. What things did he do as a result of this council of advisors? From vs.7‐9, what is the sequence of events that finally lead to Ahaziah’s death?
We again see how rebellion and forsaking God’s ways lead to a sad end and how the company one keeps and the advisors with which one is surrounded influence the outcome of one’s life, actions and behaviour! God always has His agents and messengers who execute His will and purpose. In the case of Ahaziah, the messenger of God was Jehu (vs.7‐9). V.10 highlights the way evil multiplies itself. Why would a mother destroy the whole royal family, thus leaving no one to take over from Ahaziah?
This can only be described as wickedness! Yet, in this self‐destruction, God’s mercy and salvation is demonstrated through Jehosheba’s action thus ensuring the continuation of the Davidic dynasty (vs.11‐12).
