Scripture Union Daily Guide 4 December 2025 Outline
Jeremiah did not know where God was going when He commanded him to get a linen belt neither did it make sense to hide it in a rock opening. It will be soiled and become unusable! However, Jeremiah obeyed God step by step. He therefore provides a striking contrast to Judah, who consistently refused to obey the Lord their God (Jeremiah 13:10). Notice the relationship God intended to have with them – ‘to be my people, for my renown and praise and honour’ (Jeremiah 13:11). How disappointed God must be to see that they engage in wickedness instead. They have become like a soiled linen belt. Disobedience spoils us and destroys our relationship with God. God wants us to be Jeremiahs who obey Him without complaining, giving excuses or murmuring.
Notice what God threatens to do to the Israelites (Jeremiah 13:9,13-14)? God is warning His people to repent or else face the terrible pain that He promises in this passage. Once the day of punishment comes, there will be no turning back – no pity, no mercy, no compassion (Jeremiah 13:14). God gives people plenty of warnings out of His mercy. We should respond to Him now and not wait until He withdraws His mercy.
