Question(s) for Reflection
• What does the passage teach about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit? • Is there any prayer for me to remember?

Scripture Union SU Daily Guide 18th October 2021 | Outline

The psalmist expresses confidence in the God who answers his prayers (vs.1-2). We must prove God who does not close His ears to prayers from a sincere heart (Psalm 51:3-4, 16 -17). In such prayers our personal relationship with God is of uttermost importance as seen in the personal way the psalmist addresses God, “my King and my God”. The emphasis on praying in the morning in v.3 shows the need to begin the day with God.

There is something about those quiet morning hours before the hustle and bustle of the day that is so special, when it is just between ‘my God and me’ (Mark 1:35). What character of God can you see in vs.4-6? We may be tempted to pray “dangerous prayers” in the time of persecution.

Instead of saying such wrong prayers that are inconsistent with the teaching of Christ; we should learn to appeal to the righteousness and mercy of God, and leave Him to act on our behalf (vs.9-10 cf. 1 Peter 2:21-23) Take note of David’s attitude of humility and reverence before the Lord (vs.7-8). We must learn right attitudes in worship and always be ready to accept His leading (John 4:23-24).

• Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?

Closing Prayer
• Oh Lord, give heed to the voice of my cry, my King and my God. • Praise Him for His love in keeping our families together in unity, and in meeting our spiritual and material needs.

Offer a prayer of faith in line with Jeremiah 17:7
7 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord.

BIBLE READING: 1 Sam. 15-16; 2 Peter 1
