Scripture Union Daily Guide 19 October 2026 Outline

Here are further horrors that will face Israel for breaking the covenant. All the blessings they once enjoyed were lost when they disobeyed God. A detailed description of the horrors can be seen in the raid, siege and cannibalism (Deuteronomy 28:50-57). It is worth noting that all these horrific prophecies have been fulfilled in different eras in Israel’s history. For example, Deuteronomy 28:49-52,64 says that Israel will be taken into captivity. This came true when Israel was carried away into captivity by the Assyrians in 772 BC, and Judah to Babylon in 586 BC, and in AD 70 by the Romans.

Reflect on Deuteronomy 28:65-67. These days, many people in our nations are battling with anxiety and living in despair. They are not sure of the next moment because of various insurgencies, kidnappings and wars, bad governance, economic hardship, famine, epidemics and various kinds of natural disasters, etc. In what ways can you help people overcome their anxieties?

God did not spare His own favoured people when they disobeyed Him. All the blessings they once enjoyed turned to horrific disaster. Hence the reason we should flee from the sin of disobedience lest we too face destruction.
