Scripture Union Daily Guide 20 October 2025 Outline
In Job 29:7-17, Job, as a respected elder, had partaken in local governance, bringing justice to the oppressed. However, all human governments are established by God (Romans 13:1). Elihu argued that if God were unjust, there could be no just government on earth. God hires and fires kings of the world. Both the rich and the poor are the work of His hands. He is the author and the finisher of our lives. We then must rejoice and be glad in Him all our days. Our understanding of the brevity of earthly life ought to cause us to live in harmony with God and our fellow human beings. Notice how God’s sovereignty is expressed in Job 34:20-30. In His sovereignty, He may decide to remain silent in some situations. Have you ever felt that God is silent in your life?
God is self-sufficient. He does not need to consult anybody (Job 34:24-25). God indeed punishes sin, but Elihu made a big mistake by overly emphasizing the justice of God without His love. The just God is also compassionate. He hears the prayers and cries of the needy. Misunderstanding plays a very big negative role in human relationships. It can result in suspicion, hatred, oppression, and hurt that can last for years. It should therefore be avoided at all costs. We must learn to understand God’s sovereignty in all situations.
