Scripture Union Daily Guide 21st July 2026 Outline
Amid a national challenge, David had to seek the face of God (2 Samuel 21:1). We see the case of one man’s sin affecting all. To remedy the famine, David had seven of Saul’s descendants executed to atone for their blood guilt against the Gibeonites (2 Samuel 21:5-6). Saul, when he was king, 400 years later, broke the treaty Israel made shortly after they entered the Promised Land (Joshua 9).
The Old Testament law was applied (Numbers 5:7; Leviticus 24:19-21) on Saul. We saw a mother named Rizpah, and when we look at what she did, we cannot help but say, “Wow, what a mother” (2 Samuel 21:10-11)! Godly mothers love their children unconditionally (1 Corinthians 13:4-7). Raising children requires patience. What was the result of her love (2 Samuel 21:12-14)?
Will your love provoke others to good works? Finally, sin must be atoned for (Romans 6:23). Jesus’ death atones for the sin of humanity (1 John 2:2). He redeemed us from the curse of the law (Romans 10:9-10; Galatians 3:13). Have you had this personal experience of being redeemed by His blood?
