The rising level of moral decadence and corruption in our nations is a clear indication that we need revival. What can we learn from this passage on how to achieve genuine revival (vs.3‐4, 6‐9)? The personal commitment of Jehoshaphat in obeying God and getting rid of idolatry in the land was a great leadership example in initiating national transformation (vs.3,4,6).
Whatever changes we want to see must begin with each of us otherwise, our talk about change will be mere rhetoric. In vs.7‐9, Jehoshaphat invested massively on religious education of the citizens. What was the result (see vs.5,10‐13; cf. Nehemiah 8:9‐12)? He seemed to understand that ignorance of God’s word was a major reason why the people behaved irresponsibly. But whenever God’s Word is properly taught and understood, there is always visible transformation, peace and prosperity.
For this to happen, we must work towards allowing the Word of God to take central place a in our national policies and programmes and be ready to invest both time and resources on sound Christian education in our homes, churches and schools. What else can we learn from v.16?
